Japanese workers don’t like flexibility?

Written by:

Japan is struggling to implement their 4 day work weeks and it’s not because of employers 🤯

The four day work week was first proposed in 2021 by lawmakers to encourage staff retention and to cut the numbers of workers falling ill or dying on the job from overworking.

Employees are hesitant to take up the offer. For example at Panasonic, in 2 years, only 150 of their eligible 63,000 staff opted into the four day work week.

The reason? Well they think it’s due to Japanese people’s culture of putting their companies before themselves. They may feel pressure to be a team player and want to be seen as hard workers.

How interesting…

Culture clearly plays a huge part in workplace trends and reform.

Another example that not all trends work for you, and it’s vital to understand your workers and your culture.
